Some of these minerals turn translucent in oil. I apply a dozen or more layers to achieve a prismatic finish. The result is a continuous hue-shift, responsive to light and time of day. Like looking into a rainbow that never fades. You know that feeling of spaciousness, peace, when there’s no urgency to do anything other than to be? That’s what I see when I paint. And that’s why I paint what I see."
